Hello!
Always be sure to take your pet to a Vet before administering any type of medition.
There could be other causes for allergy like symptoms, and you would not want to treat for the wrong problems. Also, not all human medication is safe for pets, so at the very least call your Vet and be sure before giving it to your pet.

GET HIM TO THE VET IMMEDIATELY. Zyrtec may be harmful or fatal to dogs if it is swallowed.
Dogs can have either Zyrtec or Robitussin DM (or CF). These medications are for two different purposes, they can't be used interchangeably. Zyrtec is an allergy medication, and Robitussin is a cough suppressant. Your vet can advise you of the proper medication and dose for your dog, based on it's weight and the condition your dog has.
In clinical trials with dogs they used 1mg of zyrtec per 2 pounds of dog. So a 20 pound dog can take 10mg although with my 18 pound shiba the vet recommended 5mg. I would err on the lower dose.
The typical dosage of Zyrtec (cetirizine) for dogs is about 1 mg per pound of body weight, given once daily. For a 60-pound dog, this would equate to approximately 60 mg of Zyrtec. However, it's essential to consult a veterinarian before administering any medication to ensure safety and proper dosage for your specific pet.
The typical dosage of Zyrtec (cetirizine) for dogs is usually around 0.5 mg to 1 mg per pound of the dog's body weight, given once daily. However, it's essential to consult with a veterinarian before administering any medication to ensure it's appropriate for your dog's specific condition and health status. Zyrtec is generally considered safe for dogs, but individual responses may vary. Always follow your vet's recommendations for dosage and duration.
I would not recommend that you take Zyrtec on an empty stomach because it can give you a upset stomach and diarrhea as well. It can also make you feel really bad too.
