It is actually the serge in LH that causes estrogen to be prduced in high dosages. The reason behind this is as there is an increase in estrogen, the uterine lining becomes filled with blood and thickens in preparation for implantation. At the same time, the surge in LH makes the cervical mucus thinner so that the sperm can reach the egg in order to fertilize it.
In the late maturation follicular phase, the dominant follicle level secretion of estrogen crosses a certain threshold stimulating Luteinizing Hormone (LH) secretion, which in turn stimulates more estrogen production by the follicle. The result is a rapid increase in LH secretion, the LH surge, and therefore triggers the rupture of the dominant follicle, in other words, ovulation.

When your body has an LH surge, you are ovulating and may become pregnant.
In the beginning of the menstrual cycle, LH and FSH stimulate the ovaries to make estrogen. During this time, there is a negative feedback loop, so levels of all three hormones are rather low. Eventually, as the estrogen levels slowly creep up, there comes a time when it switches from negative feedback to positive feedback (not exactly sure what the biochemical basis of this is), and LH and FSH levels skyrocket (estrogen levels go up to, but not as sharply, and there is always more LH than FSH). The LH surge causes ovulaton. The corpus luteum starts secreting progesterone, which inhibits LH and FSH secretion in a negative feedback manner, and so FSH and LH levels drop sharply.

The morning after pill disrupts the LH surge. That's part of how it works. The morning after pill does not contain LH.
