It is generally a good idea to avoid taking any other central nervous system (CNS) depressants while on any other central nervous system depressants (such as hydrocodone).

Things such as:
- alcohol (especially)
- benzodiazepines (xanax, valium, klonopin, Ativan, etc)
- barbituates (phenobarbital, etc)
- oxycodone, morphine, etc (unless prescribed WITH hydrocodone)

and so forth, should be avoided. When in doubt, you can ask a pharmacist anonymously if necessary, or use a drug interactions checker online.
