As by "pill" if you are meaning the birth control pill, as long as you take it everyday you should be fine. I have been on the pill for 5 years and have sometimes forgotten to take the pill for a day or two and have taken the pill after sex and I have never gotten pregnant.
Talk to your doctor. The literature says that just being older makes pregnancy harder. This is more important that the having been on the pill.

With the 21 day pill, you leave a gap of 7 days. As long as you have been taking your pills as directed, you do not need additional contraception for the non pill-taking days.
