From what I've been able to gather about goldenseal is that it has no effect on the drug test and the massive amounts of water you're supposed to drink with it has more of the effect.
I had a chem professor explain why it's thought to work though. Under chemical testing goldenseal can show up as strychnine. (For those of you that don't know strychnine is a poison.) When it was first discovered in drug testing they would then throw out the testing thinking some mistake and you got a do over for the drug test.
Now some do test for goldenseal and if it shows up (even if drugs don't) your test gets flagged for doping agents.
Also I've only looked elsewhere online for an answer to how long it stays in your system. It appears to stay in your system about 24 hours after that you should be good.
