Eh...Kind of a vague question, but I'll give it a shot. But, what 3-4 day period are you talking about? What other drug are you relating this to?

I believe that a saliva swab test can only detect the recent use (by smoking) of a given drug, probably within the first 48hrs or less (But don't throw all your money on this!). I would also think that if one smoked a certain drug (ex: marijuana or opium), and were to thoroughly brush their teeth and tongue, and wash their mouth out very well, that they could pass the saliva test. From my understanding, a saliva test just tests for the residue left over in a users mouth from smoking something. I would think that after the mouth is cleaned, the drug could only be detected by urine, hair, or blood sample. Saliva testing isn't usually used, but the police use it often when they suspect a person to be under the influence (because the test and results are easy and quick). Most drug tests will be urine samples, however. I also understand that when using a saliva swab test (for drug testing, and even other types of testing) that eating or drinking before the test could cause inaccuracies in the test. So, I guess cleaning your mouth and drinking plenty of liquids would be your best bet, other than just NOT using the drug ( but some just insist on it!;) )

Another thing to consider is what drugs the saliva test can detect. Some drug test kits can only detect certain drugs. Usually, the most commonly abused drugs are tested for (ex: marijuana, cocaine, PCP, ect...). Opium, being a much, much less commonly used drug, may not be detected by certain saliva tests. But again, don't throw all your chips on this one! There are MANY different factors to consider pertaining to drug testing. No one answer can ever fit all instances. Some peoples' bodies may dispose of a drug's remnants very quickly, while other's may "hold on to" the drug in their system much longer. Metabolism plays a major role in the mix. I would suggest that anyone in risk of being tested actually buy different types of drug tests and test themselves. Find out how long your body needs to get rid of whatever drug you use. Knowing your body is a valuable thing. That knowledge can keep you out of trouble, keep you from losing your job, help you get a job, keep you from getting kicked off a sports team, keep you from getting in trouble with parents, keep you from getting kicked out of school, keep you out of prison, keep you from getting a probation violation, and MANY other things. Not using drugs in the first place is the best thing to do, but I'm not going to preach and tell you what to do. I only offer advice. ;)

If I used drugs, and was really concerned about being drug tested, I would do a LOT of research on the topic (Don't take one person's word for it! Get many opinions!). I would also test myself and figure out how quickly my body eliminates different drugs. I would also, if possible, be sure to remember when the test would be, and give myself AMPLE time to get clean before it. I will give you a few ways to do further research on this:

First site you should go see is http://www.erowid.org They have lots of great info on ALL types of drugs, drug testing, effects of drugs, user experiences, FAQs, etc, etc...

(a must-see for anyone who is interested in or uses drugs!)

You should also search for things like, "Opium and Drug Testing", "Opium and Saliva Testing", "Smoking Opium Drug Testing", etc, etc...

The more you learn, the SAFER you will be! Knowledge is power!

Hope this helps!

P.S.- Judging by the way you asked this question (and I may be wrong), I would assume that you either already have smoked opium, or you are planning on smoking it. If you have never smoked it before, and you are planning on or considering doing it, PLEASE hear me out:

You DON'T want to do it! Once you smoke it, you will probably (and MOST LIKELY) never want to stop. You will probably also start taking EVERY opiate (or opioid) pill you can find. I won't lie to you, opium (opiates and opioids) feel great, but that's the catch! It feels SO great, that you will CERTAINLY do it again and again and again! You may think its no big deal, but ANYONE can get hooked on this drug! It also happens very quickly, and before you know it, you are hooked! I have seen this happen to several of my close friends. They have gone through the WORST withdrawals (agonizing pain, sickness, depression, and suffering beyond belief and comprehension) ever since! I would really hate to see, or even hear about, anyone else going through that! NO ONE is too smart, tough, cool, or strong to avoid the addiction. It can, and has, gotten the very best of us! PLEASE don't put yourself through this, or even take the risk (which is more of a promise than risk!), if you haven't already done it. If you have already done it, I would just advise that you quit, or at least be VERY careful and responsible about it. I don't mean to sound bossy, or like I'm telling you what to do, but I just offer the best of my advice about this. I really would hate to know another person is addicted to this drug!

Can human saliva heal a cut?

While human saliva does contain some antibacterial properties, it is not recommended to use saliva for wound healing due to the risk of introducing harmful bacteria from the mouth into the wound. It's best to clean a cut with soap and water, apply an antiseptic, and cover it with a bandage to prevent infection and promote proper healing.
