Short sighted people are not helped by lenses or anything else. Except the consequences of their short sightedness.
I think you mean near sighted people.
The eye is a lens and focal point system. The focal length of the eye can be manipulated by flexing muscles in the eye socket to change the distance between the lens and the back of the eyeball. A near sighted, or even a far sighted, person has an eyeball that is too long or too short for the lens, and therefore the image produced by the eye's lens is focused either in front of or behind the back of the eye.
A lens, either in a pair of glasses or a contact lens, can assist the eye by effectively pre-focusing the image that enters the lens of the eye to a sharpness that can be accommodated by the focal length of the malformed eyeball, focusing the image sharply on the back of the eyeball.

Yes they help the short-sighted eyes.
Do you mean short sighted? Well the truth is I'm short sighted and i wear glasses. If you become short sighted, long sighted or whatever then yes it is like that forever, Unless they find a cure that's what my optometrist told me. But don't worry it's not so bad i just got my glasses yesterday (i have no idea when your going to read this so let's just say 16 December 2009 :) ) and they really help! I hope this answered your question....The unsigned answerer
If you are talking about lenses glasses. They help people see long distance or short
Glasses have a glass lense surrounded by a frame. For some people, things are fuzzy and they either get glasses or contact lenses. If people can not read something that is far away, they are near-sighted. If someone has trouble seeing/reading up close then they are far-sighted. When someone can not read things, they either get glasses or eye contacts to help them. Some people prefer glasses and some prefer contacts. Contacts, you place over your eyes that just covers the colored part of your eye. It does not cover the white part of your eye. Contacts also help you see but you have to wash them daily.
A concave lens is thinner at the centre. People who are short sighted often use a concave lens to help them see better.
Some people cannot see clearly so they need the help of glasses so they can see. Some people are long sighted which means they cannot see things up close when reading but they can see things far away. Some people are short sighted which means they cannot see things faraway but can see things close up. However people can be short sighted and long sighted. Also, many people think people start getting blurry vision in far sight is because they watch too much TV, or play too much video games. But the truth is, that has nothing to do with it. What's really happening is that as people get older from their early ages to adulthood, their eyes will always change. So if your a person that wears glasses, don't think bad of yourself for wearing them, it's just what people go through in life.
yes convex lenses help make everything larger which are used for people that are far sighted and concave lenses help make things look smaller and those are used for people that are far sighted
Reading glasses are usually because someone is far-sighted, and their close-up vision needs help. This commonly begins to happen past the age of 40.
A person who wears glasses with some type of prescription can said to be ametropic. An ametropic person can be myopic (near-sighted), hyperopic (far-sighted), astigmatic, presbyopic or even a combination of the three. or Four eyes
To help people see
People who have eye-sight that is either long-sighted or short-sighted. This means that their vision is too blurry with objects up close or objects far away, so they need spectacles to aid their vision and help them see things better.
