A tensor bandage should be applied snugly from below the injury upwards, and loosened if swelling, numbness, discoloration, pain, or coolnessdevelops below the injury. A tensor bandage should be removed at night. *Tensor bandages do not usually affect the rate of healing, but provide support and serve as a reminder to protect the injured area. 6. Bruising may appear a few days after an injury, and may appear below the injured site. 7. Sprains and strains take time to heal. See your family doctor and/or return to the hospital in 3-5 days if pain or swelling persists. * Your doctor may prescribe different forms of pain medication for you. Follow instructions for taking these medications carefully. If you have any questions or concerns about your medication, ask your doctor or pharmacist.
