How do you you make opium?

One does NOT "make" opium. Opium is poppy flower resin, usually dried and smoked. This is turned into other drugs like morphine and heroin. - I think the question meant how to extract it.

First you need some poppies of the species papaver somniferum. Wait till these flower and then the petals drop off. There should then be some seed pods. It's best to now wait 2-3 weeks for these to mature.

Extracting opium is illegal and therefore should not be done

...but if one did wish to do it anyway then they would then score the pods, top to bottom, about 1mm deep. It would be best to do this in the evening. The next morning your poppies would have oozed out their latex (the opium), which would have dried, changing from an initial pale creamy gloop to darker, browner more solid little lumps. You would scrape these off with a knife and there would be your opium. This could be smoked (vaporised that is) raw, or it could be refined first.
