How long before Lexapro works?

Anti-depressants take time to work. Most "reuptake inhibitors" start doing their job immediately but your body needs to react and that's the part that takes time.

Feeling better is not something that will happen over night. It's not as though thirteen days after starting the medication everything will be wonderful. That's not how it works.

Instead, you'll start to feel a little better, in fact at first it will be such a small difference that you won't be able to tell. Then over time the effect will start to build. While some effect may be felt within the first day or two, maximum effect may take 10-14 days. After that, insufficient response may indicate the need for an increase in dosage or change in medication.

It took me 3 weeks on 10 mgs. And another 3 weeks when doc upped to 20 mgs, but after the 20 mg dosage I was a total veg. Lazy, 2 and 3 two hour naps a day. I went back to 10 mgs for 2 weeks, then 5 mgs for 2 weeks and am now completely off. You can do it.
