It depends on what strength you take of Vicodin. There is Vicodin 5/500, Vicodin ES 7.5/750 or Vicodin HP 10/660. All of these are to be taken no sooner than 4 to 6 hours apart and each person will differ as to how long the medication will last. Some people cannot take Vicodin because it doesn't last long enough for them to have proper pain control and they may take more pills to try and get pain to cease. This is not a safe practice and you should not take Vicodin if it isn't lasting the full 4 to 6 hours. Tell your doctor as soon as possible and they may prescribe something that is longer acting, such as MS Contin or OxyContin. The important thing to remember with Vicodin is the acetaminophen that it contains could cause harm if taken in large doses. No person should ever have more than 1000mg or 1g at a time and no more than 4000mg or 4g in 24 hours. Taking excessive amounts of Vicodin could cause liver failure, respiratory depression, which slows breathing, or even death. It is not recommended to take Vicodin any other way than to swallow with water, and take the prescribed dose. Vicodin should never be taken by anyone other than who it was prescribed for.

for me the affects last anywhere from 3 to 6 hours from 3 pills..unless i take more then it last about 10 if you space out each pill
