Take it as long as it keeps you in remission. I have been on 4.8mg Lialda daily for 3 years. All three times I decided to get brave and try and quit it, I had problems within a week. Your Doc should send you for a blood test because apparently taking it for long periods of time can cause some problems in a very small percentile of patients. It does cause some negative side effects for me, but far less then a UC flare.
