However, according to vetpets.net (Vet Pets Animal Hospital in Cordova, TN), Diphenhydramine (Benadryl®) can be used to treat allergic reactions in dogs and cats. The primary side effect is drowsiness, although some cats and dogs, like some humans, may have varying side effects, from mild to severe. The dosage vetpets recommends is 1-2 mg per pound in weight every 8 hours. Overuse will cause a pet to develop a tolerance to the medication and, at that point, it will become ineffective. Don't overuse!

You can never give a cat the full amount of Tylenol that you would give a human because that could and most likely would become a lethal does. Although there has been a lot of comments saying not to give your cats Tylenol, I have given my cat about a fourth of a children's Tylenol and found that it works very well at taking away a cold. Do not give though any kind of advil or Tylenol that has any kind of time release to it. This is what could potentionally cause a fatal reaction. Also keep in mind the size of your cat. The smaller the cat, obviously the smaller the amount that you would let them have. If using any kind of pill, wrapthe bit that you will use and wrap it in either cheese or deli meat to take the taste away. Or if using liquid, use an eyedropper and squirt down there throat, watch out though! They can be fiesty!

Actually, my vet recommended Children's benadryll for my cat while traveling. You do have to take your cat to the vet so he or she can tell you how much to give them. It's based on dosage of the benny and the cat's weight. Don't administer anything to your cat without first contacting your vet. NONE! I would notrecommend giving your cat any human medications as these can cause life-threatening complications. If your cat needs medication, contact your Vet who may recommend a OTC product you can try at a certain doseage which will not be harmful to your feline.

Most veterinarians or those in the medical field will tell you - Never give an animal a medicine meant for a human without a veterinarian prescribing it and telling you the amount to give it. The dosage of many medicines meant for humans can kill a cat. Diphenhydramine IS in fact injected into felines and can be given orally as well. Don't apply topical diphenhydramine AND dose your feline orally. A six lb cat, when otherwise healthy, can accept 12.5 ml of diphenhydramine without suffering unhealthy side effects.

If the tablets are 25 mg, cut tablet in half. If the tablets are 50 mg, cut the tablet in 4ths.
