A machine shop may be able to repair the head but my advice is to replace a cracked head.
To tell if the head is cracked, you have to remove it from the car, so you will replace the head gasket, anyway. Take the head to a machine shop and have it magnafluxed to see if it's cracked.
There is a new Product on the Market wich will fix a cracked Head. Seen this on one of the Car Shows on TV. They say its Guaranteed to seal the Crack......try it.....not much to lose !!!

Engine will possibly overheat, coolant will mix with the oil, and eventually destroy the engine. You must replace a cracked head gasket.
Replace it , meaning the cracked head or the gasket . Neither can be repaired . The head can be repaired if its only warped from overheating by having it surfaced . It is best on the 8 valve or the 16 valve engines to replace with new parts.
If it is cracked, don't repair it, replace it.
A blown gasket can be repaired by replacing the gasket...if you are talking about the head gasket, then you have to remove the cylinder head from the engine block and replace the gasket that is inbetween them. Cracked heads generally have to be replaced because they are made of aluminum which cannot be repaired permanently once it is cracked.
Probably around $1200.
If your referring to the engine block, the motor has to be replaced. If your refering to a cracked head, the head has to be replaced. Contact a service technician you can trust. a cracked block cannot be repaired. The only option is to replace the engine.
It is generally unecessary to replace the entire engine if your head gasket is cracked. You will have to remove the head and take it to an automotive machine shop. Have them inspect it to make sure it's lower face is flat and if not have them mill it. They should also inspect the valves and replace any defective ones. They can also check to see if the head itself is cracked in wich case you'll need a new one. Then you will have to reinstall the head with new gaskets following the directions in your shop/repair manual.
