i like this question so here is a full answer to what i understand the question to be asking.
some humans' minds are so open to new things and so stubborn that a simple comment can seem like a new world is approaching them, that because of what has just been said they have been pushed forward into new realities, can make a person feel like they are moving forward to new and better things, the feeling of coming out of a dark hole after being trapped for so long, however its not always a good thing because they feel so new to the world they forget most of the important bonds they share with people, begin forming new friendships with people they arent usually aligned with, therefore creating animosity in those found to be closest with, and also will quickly develop new bad habits in a short space of time.
as for altering their lives, not a whole lot, mabye enough to get them into a good habit but one comment would not be enough to completely change a person unless it took them down a path of regret and frustration, these 2 things can feel so intense to a person it can make them hate everything they've done, leading them to be more attention seeking and succumb to what others think easily.
another attitude altering through comment would be through over-praise.
if someone is praised continuously in a way that appeals to their nature it can have the same side effect as most illegal drugs - addiction - the persons head is so swollen trying to deal with all the praise they eventually succumb to what they think others believe, your the best person in the world, this is hazardous to someone's personality and friendships, when a small person becomes too big for his boots he tries to take the bigger man's place in his shoes, problem is, their sense is directing them to step up in the ranks of their peers, they will feel very good for a time depending on the persons will power and vanity but will eventually end up showing selfishness towards those closest to them and deep contempt for those who will not acknowledge their fantasy standing for having not earned it.
No! Even if we feel or have felt that we have had valid justification in altering the ecosystem for our needs at the time. The long term effect of such actions are hard to ignore!
The quote is from William James, a prominent American psychologist and philosopher in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. James emphasized the importance of mindset and attitude in shaping one's life and achievements.
