A typical aspirin dose is 5 to 10 mg per pound (10 to 20 mg/kg) twice daily for dogs, and 5 mg per pound (10 mg/kg) once every other day for cats. A baby aspirin is usually 81mg. That would be too low.
Starting at the low end, a dose of 550 would be safe. If that doesn't seem to work, try 7.5 mg per lb. Always give with food and do NOT use the enteric coated aspirin. The coating is undigestible by dogs.
Good luck. (If the leg doesn't get better, see a vet.)
81mg is the common dosage for "baby" aspirin
I have not seen baby aspirin marketed for years. Baby aspirin was available before the association with Reye's syndrome was established, but since then has apparently been removed from the market. There is still a chewable 81mg aspirin available, probably for low dose heart attack prevention. Furthermore, aspirin may still be necessary for treating some childhood illnesses, but under a doctor's order.
If it is buffered it will say on the label. Bayer makes a Low dose safety coated Aspirin that is buffered. (81mg) It has an enteric coating. The enteric safety coating is designed to allow the aspirin to pass through the stomach to the small intestine before dissolving.
Aspirin and Tylenol are unrelated. You can take the full recommended dose of Tylenol (acetominophen) if you are taking a baby aspirin.
Yes, baby aspirin can thin your blood by inhibiting the formation of blood clots.
Be very careful with aspirin - it can be toxic to dogs. Never give it to a cat.It can be toxic if given in high doses of about 30 mg (milligram) per pound of the dog. This means that even a baby aspirin could be poisonous for dogs weighing two pounds or less. An adult aspirin, which is 320 mg, would be toxic for a 10-pound dog. So even 1/2 an aspirin to too much for a 5-lb dog. and they'll live without it - don't do it.
Yes, you can. Baby aspirin is the same as regular aspirin, just 1/4 of the regular amount (81mg instead of 330 mg). Since aspirin causes stomach bleeding, it is advisable to only take small amounts of it. 1-2 pills of baby aspirin usually works fine for me.
81mg baby aspirin T PO QD means to take one 81mg tablet of baby aspirin by mouth every day.
None, unless your doctor tells you, and gives you a subscription. I am studying to be a vet, and trust me. You don't want to know what could happen!
NO you would kill it if the puppys having teeth pain give it a bone or something to chew on its just teething and if you dont get anything for it to chew on say good bye to your shoes! ---------------------------------------------- Actually Puppies don't start teething for 6 months, By that time it is perfectly safe to give them 1 or a 1/2 a baby aspirin depending on their size.
