No, it is not, Prozac, or Fluoxetine (not to be confused with Fluvoxamine / Brand Name - Luvox) is in a class of drugs known as Selective Serotonin Reuptake Inhibitors or SSRIs (Paxil, Zoloft, Lexapro, etc.). These drugs are most commonly prescribed as antidepressants.

I have found that most doctors are quick to prescribe SSRIs & probably wouldn't hesitate to if you asked for one of them. Because the level of abuse with SSRIs is much lower than with many other drugs, doctors don't seem to encourage the extra caution as they might with other drugs such as Xanax, Loratab, Oxycontin, etc. However, many people seem to believe the withdraw from discontinuing the use of SSRIs can be just as bad as & maybe worse than with some of those & many other drugs . . .
