Is a Fentanyl 100 mcg patch and a duragesic 100mcg patch the same dosage?

No - they are 2 completely separate drugs. OxyContin is the time release version of Oxycodone, and typically lasts from 7-12 hours.

Duragesic / Fentanyl transdermal patches are timed release fentanyl over a 48-72 hour period. Its release is regulated by body heat. It is a much more reliable and steadier drug than OxyContin, in that it doesn't wear off as fast, and it lasts a lot longer.

Technically yes, but for most of us who have tried using the generics, the dosages aren't as strong.

Duragesic is the brand name for Fentanyl Transdermal patches - it's only been the last few years that they've been available as generics. Most new patients didn't have a problem with them, but many like me who've used Duragesic for many years found that we couldn't use them as they weren't potent enough.

It's important to understand something about generics, in general - while they may be "chemically equivalent", they are not always "quality equivalent". Having worked in QA for many years prior to retiring on disability, I know that companies cut costs with generics in several ways, and that's usually in the materials used, the process, or the potency of the drug. Having been a high dose opiate patient for many years, I can tell the difference between brand-name Percocet and generic equivalents - generics are always weaker. As such I've been paying extra for brand name for many years, but I get better results so I don't have to buy as much. Since I use around 120/150 Percocet 10/325's a month, you can understand why it's important to get the best potency available.

In the end though, for each opiate patient it's really what your body has become dependent on. If you started on generics, then you probably won't have a problem, or if you're on generics and you switch to Duragesic, same thing. But if you're on Duragesic a switch, there's a good chance you'll have to adjust to it.
