Is it safe to take oxycodone and tramadol?

There is no true major interaction between these two drugs. There is an increased risk of respiratory depression, difficulty breathing, if one where to take more then recomend medicine of both at the same time. It may be ok to take both at the same time or to alternate between the two. Both medicines are safe to take every 4-6 hours as needed. Therfore if the goal is to move from one pain killer to the other then take a regular scheduled oxycodone then 4-6 hours later take the tramadol.

This is a nonsensical drug combination. A patient would not use both drugs at the same time, however a patient may alternate agents safely. For example, tramadol for mild/moderate pain and oxycodone for severe pain. The drugs should not be used together as the side effects are additive.
