Technically OxyContin (oxycodone) is a narcotic drug, in the class of synthetic opiates, and is used to treat moderate to severe pain.

All opiates, natural or synthetic, depress (meaning in this case to slow) the central nervous system, decreasing heart rate and slowing breathing. In that technical sense it is officially considered a depressant.

This is not the same thing as causing psychiatric symptoms of depression which it does not do.
