I would not use toothpaste. I have seen videos where really cheap jewelry was cleaned using toothpaste and it did make the jewelry shinier than before.

Toothpaste is abrasive so it is kind of like using fine sand paper on your jewelry. Using toothpaste is an old wives tale. You can use a toothbrush with a cleaning solution. The solution I use and many jewelry stores is half Mr. Clean and water with a small amount of water. Soak for 15 seconds then rinse with water and dry.

I will attach a link that has more information.

Can you use tooth paste to clean jewelry?

You COULD use whatever you would like to clean your jewelry, but it is highly recommended to get your jewelry cleaned at your local jewelers. Toothpaste or any other cleaners that are not specified as "safe" for your specific jewelry (gold, silver, etc.) are probably not a good idea to use. They could damage or permanently discolor your jewelry. If there is an intricate design, toothpaste could get in the grooves and make it look worse than when you started.

Why does toothpaste clean silver jewelry?

Toothpaste contains mild abrasives that can help remove tarnish and dirt from silver jewelry. It is effective in removing surface stains and restoring shine to the jewelry. However, it is important to use non-whitening toothpaste and to avoid scrubbing too vigorously to prevent damage to the jewelry.

Can vinegar clean jewelry?

Vinegar can be used to clean jewelry, but its acidity may damage certain types of jewelry, such as those with gemstones or delicate materials. It is recommended to dilute the vinegar with water and to only use it on jewelry that is not sensitive to acidic solutions. It's best to consult with a jeweler for specific cleaning recommendations based on the type of jewelry you have.

What ingrediant is used to clean jewelry?

For platinum or gold, use Mr. Clean, water, and ammonia. This is what jewelers use in their ultra sonic to clean jewelry and is safe for all types of jewelry. Half Mr. Clean and water with just a little ammonia. Sterling jewelry is cleaned using either a sterling jewelry dip or baking soda and water as a paste. I would not use toothpaste. Toothpaste is abrasive and can ruin a high polish.

Does toothpaste clean sterling silver?

Do NOT EVER use toothpaste to clean your jewelry - its abbrasive and will scratch the metal. I use plain ol windex (amonia) and if you happen to have a steam cleaner put it to use on cleaning your jewelry!! The simple tried and true stuff is usually the way to go - and who cant get ahold of a bottle of windex? - even the knock off will work - as its basic ingredient is amonia. See your gems and jewels come out sparking like brand new!!

Can you clean jewelry with rubbing alcohol?

Rubbing alcohol can be used to clean certain types of jewelry, such as metal pieces or diamonds, by soaking the jewelry in the alcohol and then gently scrubbing with a soft brush. However, it may not be suitable for all types of jewelry, especially those with softer gemstones or delicate materials. Always check with a professional jeweler or use a jewelry-specific cleaner for more delicate pieces.

How do you clean off tarnish?

For sterling jewelry jewelers use a sterling silver dip. I like Hagerty's dip. Jewelers also use baking soda and water when they don't have a sterling silver dip. Mix just enough water with baking soda to make a paste. Rub on your jewelry then rinse and dry. I would not use toothpaste. Using toothpaste is an old wife's tale and can harm your jewelry if you have a high polish fine jewelry. For platinum or gold, use Mr. Clean, water, and ammonia. This is what jewelers use in their ultra sonic to clean jewelry and is safe for all types of jewelry. Half Mr. Clean and water with just a little ammonia.

Does toothpaste clean silver?

Toothpaste can be mildly abrasive and may help to remove tarnish from silver, but it is not the recommended or best method for cleaning silver. Silver polish specifically designed for silver cleaning is a better option to prevent damage and maintain the shine of silverware or jewelry.

What can be used to clean jewelry if you dont have jewelry cleaner?

To clean all types of jewelry including fine jewelry a solution of half Mr. Clean and half water with a small amount of ammonia is the best. This works just as well as jewelry cleaner and is what many jewelry stores use in their ultrasonic. Allow the piece to soak for 15 minutes in the solution then rinse with water. If tarnished sterling silver jewelry is to be cleaned, a mixture of baking soda and water can be used. Mix just enough water and baking soda to make a paste then rub the paste on the sterling silver. Rinse and dry. I have seen other solutions used including toothpaste on inexpensive jewelry, but toothpaste is abrasive and I would not use this on any jewelry worth anything.
