Is there a generic drug equivalent for Lexapro?

I asked my Insurance company after I found out the cost, and she looked it up and told me NO! there is not a genric form of Lexapro, (sorry guys, i hate the cost myself) The patent on Lexapro runs out in 2012, after which time a generic version (escitalopram oxalate) will be available. I recently asked the same question to planetdrugsdirect.com who is selling a generic for Zyprexa . I haven't heard anything from them yet but news releases refer to several companies being allowed to develop a generic as far back as 2005. We cannot afford the $450 price tag. This website does sell the name brand at a deep discount. I haven't personally purchased from them but plan to do so this week. They have gotten great reviews. Hope this helps.

Sorry, cymbalta is to new to have a generic. Lily did apply for a patent extension in 2006 so it could be a while before a generic comes out

There is generic equivalent of lexapro. It is called as Escitalopram.

yes, citalopram, but lexapro (escitalopram) is the newer, 'better' version of it. Both are SSRIs. Other SSRIs include Prozac, Paxil, Zoloft, etc.
