The US Food and Drug Administration and the Federal Trade Commission issued seven warning letters on Tuesday December 6, 2011 to companies that sell the over-the-counter products, noting they have not been approved by the FDA for weight loss. The FTC issued a warning in January of 2011 to consumers stating the over the counter drops do not contain any of the real hormone. Anyone that lost weight on the diet protocol only did because they were eating 500 calories a day and in starvation mode. The drops legally cannot contain any real hcg.

Some brands of HCG drops have additional ingredients, such as vitamins or herbal supplements. Some are based in alcohol, some in water. It just depends on who you buy them from. Also, some HCG drops are homeopathic and have a smaller dosage. Others are called sublingual drops and have prescription-strength dosage. Don't get them confused. If it requires a prescription, it's called sublingual. If it doesn't, it's homeopathic (despite what they might claim).
