What group of people think marijuana should be legal?

marijuana is a schedule one drug. which means the government classes it as having no known medical use and having a high risk for abuse. what confuses me though is if it a schedule one drug how can states have "Medical Marijuana". its all a mess

Be careful believing any answer posted, this is a loaded question in many waysThe issues as I see them:

• Morality, many people believe that this is an immoral thing to consume. Thus they should be able through the law prevent its use. We should never allow government to govern basic morality.
• Gateway: Many people will list this as a gateway drug to more harmful drugs. The under ground nature of illegal drug use makes this possible, Legalization would remove this argument instantly.
• Prohibition: As with the prohibition of Liquor in the 1930s this has been proven to not work
• Impaired-ness: That it should be Illegal because there is no effective test to determine that people are impaired by consumption. If the research was done properly this argument would be invalid as well.
• Constitutional freedoms: Some believe that as a "free" country we should be allowed to consume drugs as we wish.

I am of the what society has labeled an "extreme" opinion that as Prohibition has never worked and that we are supposed to be living live in a free society no drug should be illegal, what ever the personal damage it could do to the user.

The idea that by making certain drugs illegal we prevent harm is completely disproved by the number of people in jail for minor drug crimes.

Marijuana is of a class of drug that is low in harm and low in cost to society before the policing and prison costs are figured in.

If Marijuana were legal the first thing that the government could do is regulate and tax the sale, the same as Booze. More money for government.

It definitely should be legal .
