It is called this due to the amount of use in Rural areas.. It was easier to get in these areas than real heroin and having similar qualities it is more abused in rural than heroin (somewhat)

Also since oxy is an opiate, it can be considered close to heroin (it;s deffinatly rdiculously addictive). But the truth is , if someone buys Oxycontin from the street it is very expensive. which is why it has also coined the term 'yuppy heroin.'

It is the street name for OxyContin. It is a time-released form of oxycodone, an opium derivative, which is the same active ingredient in Percodan and Percocet. It was/is sold as a long acting and less addictive compound however when crushed or diluted time-release action can be circumvented resulting in a quick and powerful high.
