It refers to how many types of drugs are being tested for. Cocaine, amphetamines, THC (marijuana), and opiates are pretty much always tested for. Other drugs that would likely be included on this include benzodiazepines, barbituates, methamphetamine, methadone, oxycodone, and PCP.

A seven panel drug screen test just means that there are seven different drugs that they are testing for. There can be anywhere from a one panel test and up. The most ive seen are tens and twelve panels. They do not all have the same drugs that they are testing for. for instance a four panel could be any combination of four drug panels. For a seven panel you could almost bet they will test for these drug groups:

Cannabinoids, Opioids, benzodiazepines, Amphetamines, Cocaine/Crack, ecstasy, Methadone, or LSD.
