Alcohol poisoning is exactly what it appears to be - the consumption of a sufficient quantity of alcohol to cause a toxic reaction. In many cases the reaction is fatal.

Most people will "pass out" before reaching a fatal state of alcohol poisoning, but even a simple hangover is evidence of toxicity.

A blood-alcohol level of .08% is considered legally drunk (for driving purposes). Most people will fall asleep or pass out before reaching .20%. Most people will not wake up again (ever) at .40%, and all people will die at .50%.

The actual cause of death is often asphyxiation due to choking - usually on vomit, since alcohol is a stomach irritant and, at the same time, represses the gag reflex. But alcohol also affects the part of the brain that controls breathing, which will slow until it stops - once again asphyxiation.

Don't "chug" alcohol, don't engage in stupid dares or acts of bravado regarding alcohol, and don't set out to prove you are a man or a woman because you can drink the other under the table - you might drink yourself under the ground.

Have a drink, have fun, and live to do it again another time!
