In the laparoscopy procedure, the abdomen is filled with carbon dioxide gas so that the abdominal wall balloons away from the uterus and tubes. The surgeon makes a small cut just below the navel and inserts a laparoscope, a small telescope-like instrument. A second incision is made just above the pubic hairline to allow the entrance of the instrument that will cut, sew or burn the tubes. The surgery takes about half an hour. The lazer procedure is a minor operation (often called "Band-Aid" surgery). The procedure is usually done as an out patient in a hospital. In December of 2005 I had my tubes "tied" by laproscopy and the OB did it with a band basically like a rubber band that they "tie" around a section of both my tubes. I am currently 23yrs old and have a 9month old son and have missed 2 periods and showing signs of being pregnant (but waiting a lil longer before I take a test). The risk of getting pregnant is a lot higher then anyone thinks after getting a tubal especially if you have previous health problems like I do with having ENDOMETRIOSIS! Also 99.9% of OBs don't tell their patients the risks involved in getting your tubes tied that in can actually increase your risk of ovarian cancer (depending on how they were tied) and of course the risk of getting pregnant and having an ectopic pregnancy. I had my tubes tied after having pre-eclampsia that went into HELLP syndrome with my son and almost died when I had him. There was no other choice for me. I thought after I had him that was it no more kids, if I did get pregnant it would surely kill me next time and look at me now. My husband and I don't know how we can afford another baby but if I am pregnant then we will be happy but terrified as well. For any woman that gets pregnant after having her tubes tied she can go back and file a "wrongful life or wrongful death" lawsuit on the doctor that did it if they want to.
