Forceps are surgical instruments used to grasp, hold, or manipulate tissues during procedures, providing precision and control. In contrast, a blunt probe is typically used to explore or dissect tissues without cutting, allowing for gentle manipulation and separation of structures. While both tools serve different purposes in surgery, forceps are primarily for grasping and holding, whereas blunt probes are for exploration and soft tissue handling.
The forceps I choose to grasp a foreign body depends on the location of the foreign body and the size and texture of the item. I might use Kelly forceps or mosquito forceps most typically.

Forceps are a tool/instrument that have "pincers", similar to tongs that can extract, manipulate, twist and pull an object out of the body. Forceps are most used in the labor and delivery setting- to extract the newborn out of the woman's body when it is medically indicated.
If a doctor misuses the forceps during birth head trauma or cervical spine injuries can occur to the baby. In general forceps are safe and the benefit will outweigh the risk of their use.

Forceps are considered a type of lever, as they use the principle of a lever to amplify force or modify the direction of force applied. By applying force at one end of the forceps, the object being grasped can be moved or manipulated at the other end.
