What to do if smoke is in your house?

It depends upon what kind of smoke, where it came from and how much there is.

If it is a lot of smoke from a fire:

Take your family and pets and leave. Then call the fire department from a safe place. Be sure to remember to close the doors on your way out, as a way to restrict the spread of a fire.

If it is a small amount of smoke from a fire, you may be able to find the fire and put it out before it gets larger, if you can do so safely.

If the source is from a smoker or from incense, you can ask that they be extinguished.

1. Make the fire more to the backside of the fireplace

2. Increase the height of the fire with andirons and/or a fireplace grate or basket

3. Make the opening of the fireplace mantel smaller with a hood or curtain

4. Make aereation holes close to the fire

5. Install a ventilor on top of the chimney to improve the vent
