Babies 6 months old and older can receive flu vaccinations as long as your pediatrician says okay. Younger babies can not receive flu vaccines. Children between the ages of 6 months to 10 years need an original vaccination and then a second "booster" in about a month after that so their immature immune systems are able to respond enough to create the immunity. Then they are set for life for immunization against the A-H1N1/09 "Swine Flu". The rub comes in if the swine flu virus mutates into a significantly different strain of flu...then a new vaccine against the modified flu is needed. That has not happened so far since the 2009 pandemic began.

In the US, unlike in 2009-2010 flu season, this year in the 2010-2011 flu season, the vaccine for the swine flu is included in the annual trivalent "regular" flu shot, so a separate vaccination against the swine flu isn't needed like last year.

If they got the separate swine flu vaccine last year, having it included in this year's flu vaccine with the other two types of flu vaccines is not a problem. It does not hurt to have the swine flu vaccine a second time and may help.
