Both opiate medications are very powerful painkillers that achieve the exact same results. The hydromorphone has 16mg of opiates and the oxycodone has 60mg of opiates. Both are time release so don't cut them in half and then take them or you could overdose.

Its always best to take the lowest dosage that works and increase that dose only when the lower dose is no longer working. Whatever you do be sure to stay in contact with your doctor before making any changes in dosage of any medication but this is especially true with any opiate medication.

It's also a good idea to have some Narcan on hand just in case of an accidental overdose . Narcan can and will will save your life. Your doctor can prescribe Narcan for you and it's cheep..

Opiate pain medication is highly addictive and that addiction will creep up on you and you won't see it until it's late. Take it from an old veteran it's no fun being addicted to opiates then trying to get clean. It will be one of the hardest things to have to go through. Unfortunately for most addicts it usually doesn't end well.

Take Care, Stay safe and good luck!

not even close..

Is meths an opiate?

No meth is not an opiate. opiates are "downers" such as heroin and meth is an "upper" such as crack and speed - two completely different things. heroin is an opiate. so are oxycodone/oxycontin, vicodin/hydrocodone, or dilaudid/hydromorphone. they are used for pain management.

What is hydromorphon used for?

Hydromorphone is a potent opiate. It is primarily used for pain management, and post-surgical.

Is hydromorphone stronger then tylox?

Hydromorphone(Diluadid) is a stronger narcotic pain reducer than Tylox(Oxycodone+Tylenol), however effecets will differ from one patient to another. Hydromorphone is 4 times stronger than a similar size dose of morphine, but is actually better at preventing serious pain than relieving it. The drug should be taken on a regular schedule, before your worst pain starts, at the same times every day. It is not a good drug for short term use. Tylox is a quick release percocet and is better at relieving serious pain in a short amount of time, but it will where off quicker and is very addictive.

Is Oxycontin and Dilaudid the same?

No. Oxycontin contains Oxycodone and a few fillers, and Dilaudid contains an opiate called Hydromorphone, a more potent narcotic. But as far as both of them being opiates, that's the only similarity.

Can hydromorphone be prescribed along with 37mcg Fentanyl patches for breakthrough pain?

It can, but generally doctors prefer to prescribe Percocet or plain Oxycodone rather than Dilaudid (hydromorphone), unless the patient has problems with morphine intolerance (both Dilaudid and Fentanyl are synthetic opiates).

I am a suboxone patient. Need pain medication for medical procedure. Is there a substitute for codeine?

You have a few different options for pain management depending on the severity of the procedure and recovery time. Many times, acetaminophen and ibuprofen in combination are great for less severe surgeries. You have your choice of combination drugs containing a narcotic pain reliever and acetaminophen such as Percocet and Vicodin. You can also get plain Oxycodone, methadone, hydromorphone, morphine, to name a few of the common ones. Most surgeons will send you home with a prescription for percocet which is oxycodone/ acetaminophen. Good luck!

Is oxycodone hcl available without acetamenophine?

Sure. Oxycodone and Acetaminophin (Tylenol) is known as Percocet. Oxycodone is prescribe by itself in the normal dosage that is in Percocet: 2.5, 5, 7.5 and 10mg tablets. Doctors usually prescribe the combination drugs like Percocet or Percodan (Oxy with Aspirin) because the combination of the two work better at reducing inflammation, which gives the Oxy a better chance to relieve pain.

Is Hydromorphone for pain?

Where did Dilaudid come from?

Dilaudid, the brand name for hydromorphone, was first synthesized in 1924 by the German pharmaceutical company Boehringer Ingelheim. It was developed as a more potent alternative to morphine for pain management. Hydromorphone gained popularity in medical use due to its effectiveness in treating moderate to severe pain, particularly in patients who may not respond well to other opioids. Over the years, it has become an important medication in pain management protocols.

What is the next step if morphine is not working?

If morphine is not providing adequate pain relief, the next step may involve increasing the dosage or switching to a different opioid, such as oxycodone or hydromorphone. Additionally, healthcare providers may consider using adjuvant medications, like anticonvulsants or antidepressants, to enhance pain control. It's essential to consult with a healthcare professional to tailor the treatment plan based on the individual’s specific needs and pain management goals.
