You shouldnt take antibiotics for a flu infection.

Antibiotics only work against infections caused by bacteria, fungi and some parasites. They don't work against any infections caused by viruses. Viruses cause colds, the flu and most coughs and sore throats.

Can you take a z pack while taking Tamiflu?

Yes. According to the Tamiflu prescription information: TAMIFLU has been shown to have a minimal chance of negatively interacting with other medications. Over-the-counter medications may be prescribed to reduce severity of symptoms while the antiviral action of TAMIFLU takes effect. Antibiotics and Tamiflu should be OK taken together, however, depending on the reason for the antibiotic, you may want to get counseling from the Pharmacist or your doctor before using both. Remember that Tamiflu is an antiviral and is for treating viral infections, not for treating bacterial infections. Antibiotics, like Z-pack are made for treating bacterial infections.

Can you take Tamiflu and antibiotics together?

Yes, you can take Tamiflu (oseltamivir) and antibiotics together, as they serve different purposes. Tamiflu is an antiviral medication used to treat influenza, while antibiotics are used to treat bacterial infections. However, it's essential to consult a healthcare provider before starting any medication combination to ensure it's appropriate for your specific situation.

Why is Tamiflu a controlled substance?

The careless use of antibiotics leads to the development of antibiotic resistant strains of bacteria. Therefore, Tamiflu should only be used as prescribed by a doctor.

How does swine flu get destroyed without antibiotics?

You cannot destroy a virus with antibiotics, because antibiotics kill bacteria not viruses. Tamiflu and other meds similar attack the virus, but it is not always successful, as viruses are quick to mutate and become immune to antivirals out there.

Can you take Tamiflu if im allergic to penicillin?

No. Tamiflu is an anti-viral drug while aspirin is an NSAID (used for inflammation) and penicillin is an antibiotic (doesn't treat viral infections). There's no reason why Tamiflu should contain aspirin or penicillin. However, don't confuse Tamiflu with TM-FLU (completely different drug) which appears to contain penicillin and is a scam/fraudulent product. Do not use TM-FLU. For more info on the TM-FLU scam see the related question below in the related links section.

Why doesn't Tamiflu work against bacteria?

Tamiflu, or oseltamivir, is an antiviral medication specifically designed to inhibit the neuraminidase enzyme found in the influenza virus, preventing its replication and spread. Bacteria do not possess neuraminidase; instead, they have different structures and mechanisms of action. Consequently, Tamiflu is ineffective against bacterial infections, which require antibiotics for treatment.
