I am not sure which is the worst, but I have heard that people have died from alcohol withdrawal. Heroin also has severe withdrawl symptoms but no deaths have been reported. Another difficult withdrawl is not life-threatening, but is extremely difficult to handle is nicotine, which may be the most addictive of them all.
