In my opinion you are forgetting about the adrenaline rush associated with certain activities.A person can become more addicted to the act of making the deal successfully more than the drugs or money

There are several reasons that drug trafficking is a serious problem.

First, the inherent violence that is brings. Drug trafficking is a dangerous profession. It is illegal and attracts dangerous people. Drug trafficking is the root cause of a lot of murder. Gangs and cartels use the violence to protect their turf, kill competitors, and simply to make more money.

Additionally, drug trafficking and drug dealing prey on the poor. Areas affected with widespread illegal drug usage tend to be poorer, in worse health, and have little social mobility.

Finally, follow the money. Drug trafficking is a huge source of dollars leaving the country. The government can no longer tax those dollars.

There are plenty of other reasons, but this should get the thought processes rolling.
