yes i am irish and that is my last name Sutherland is a Scottish name. Taken from the area of Northern Scotland known as Sutherland. The Vikings named the area Sutherland (South Land) because to them it was the land to the South. Just because you're Irish and Sutherland is your last name doesn't mean to say that Sutherland is an Irish name. Donald Sutherland is Canadian, does that mean Sutherland is a Canadian name ?
