After 500 years why did Joah of Arc become a saint?

The Catholic Church officially made Joan a Saint on May 16, 1920 at a ceremony at the Vatican in Rome. As for her being a Saint most of the people who knew her considered her to already be a Saint while she was alive. The most convincing prononucement comes from her enemies who executed her. There are numerous recorded statements from her executioner and other English soldiers and officials who suffered great remorse because they said they had burned a Saint.

After an inquire was completed 25 years after Joan's death, she was found to have been innocent of all charges. However, there were still many unanswered questions. In the late 19th century more documents from her trial came to light that clearly showed that Joan had said nothing contrary to Catholic teachings. Her cause for sainthood was reopened and she was canonized in 1920.

Because she is not a saint, there is no such thing as a saint, the whole scam is designed to make suckers think the Catholic church has a hot line to god so you should fall on one knee in front of the church and give tham all your money.

I think it was because there were some aspects of Joan's religious beliefs that made the Church uncomfortable. It is obvious that her "trial' was a sham whose sole purpose was to enable her military enemies to legally kill her. However, some of her answers to her spiritual accusers regarding her reluctance to submit to the Church could be interpreted by some that Joan did not fully subscribe to the absolute authority of the Church hierarchy in religious matters. This was a serious matter in Joan's day, and could be interpreted by some that Joan was a free-thinker about religion and perhaps even a kind of proto-Protestant. Thus, while Joan was certainly not a witch or sorceress, there might have been a tinge of heresy associated with her, which would require the Church to be extremely circumspect regarding her sainthood.

In the late 19th century documents were found that clarified statements made by Joan at her trial and showed beyond a shadow of a doubt that she was not a heretic and had been unjustly convicted for political reasons.
