Only the fact that they had many sympathizers within the Filipino elites allowed them to escape a close examination post-war. For instance, in his 468 page chronicle of the Battle of Manila (By Sword and Fire - The Destruction of Manila in WWII, Alfonso Aluit mentions them only twice, and only fleetingly.
