No they were not. The Romans were deeply influenced by the Greeks in all sorts of fields: religion, architecture, sculpture and philosophy and others. They adopted some Greek gods and many of their myths and linked their gods to the Greek ones. They adopted Greek sports and Greek siege machines. The Roman elites looked up to the Greeks. They received an education in both Latin and Greek and the pinnacle of their education was a stay in Greece to study Greek philosophy.

The reason why the Romans were influenced by the Greeks so much was that their civilisation, which had been around for much longer, was very advanced. They adopted Greek medicine because it was the most advanced one in antiquity.
