Some spots of light:

  • The house of wisdom or (Bayt Al-hekma) as in Arabic was a very important library & an institute for both writing & translating books into Arabic. It was constructed in the Abbasi age of the Islamic golden history.
  • Ancient Roman, Persian, Greek knowledge was preserved & modified through this library. Many achievements were accomplished in it by many brilliant scholars. Enormous books in all fields were found in it with new Islamic aspects.
  • The Muslim caliph Al-Mamoun had greatly cared & spent a lot of money on that library.
  • Baghdad, at that time, was the most developed city in the whole world.
  • This library was devastated due to the barbaric invasion of the Mongol to Baghdad. The Arabic historical books narrate that the water of the Tigris had been transformed into the black color for months according to the huge amount of books that had been thrown in it.
