if anyone could answer this question i would be very grateful as i am struggling to find information to improve my coursework for a Dr. Jekyll and Mr Hyde essay and need to know some background information on the crime in Victorian society.

prostitution was rife, as the Victorians were extremely prudish, and even the word 'leg' was seen as rude. On the surface, Victorians were clean and polite, yet under the surface the dark truth looms. there were more prostitutes than ever before, and men of the upper class were visiting them whenever they could. Jack the ripper came from Victorian times also.
