Famous patriot Betsy Ross was married 3 times and bore at least 7 daughters. By most accounts, her first husband, John Ross, was killed in the revolution before they could have any children. However, there is some rumor that the couple may have bore a daughter who died in infancy, although it is not too well-documented.
After being widowed and, by most accounts, childless at 24, she married her second husband Joseph Ashburn in 1777. They had two daughters, Zilla and Eliza, but only Eliza survived infancy. Unfortunately, her Ashburn also died in a British prison without ever having met either one.
Last, she married her third husband John Claypoole in 1783. Together, they had 5 more daughters. Clarissa, Susan, Rachel and Jane lived full lives, but Harriet died before she was a year old. Claypoole himself passed away in 1817 and Betsy in 1836.
