In Arizona, near the Arizona border, there have been archaeological studies of mammoth kills that took place around 13,000 years ago. It took a lot of effort to kill one, and the bones show that they were butchered. So, presumably, they were part of the diet of those Indians. In other places, the mammoths were chased over a cliff to make it easier to kill them. Certainly, this level of hunting let to the extinction of those animals in the area.
