Jefferson Davis was qualified to be the president of the Confederacy. He was educated at two well known academies and graduated from West Point. He also served in the Mexican War. Later in his career in was a member of the House of Representatives and a senator. He also served as the US Secretary of War.Certainly this experience served him well as the risk of open warfare was a reality for the Confederacy.
Based on the circumstances in 1861, it can be almost called a miracle, almost is important, that a new central government ruling the new Confederacy was built from scratch. The South had no central government, no army or navy to speak of and much of it had to do with the efforts of Jefferson Davis. Davis is sometime maligned as a leader, this is not true. His efforts to organize the South and help fight a Union army with almost unlimited resources to fight a major was a remarkable feat, to which much credit belongs to Jefferson Davis.
Oh, dude, Jefferson Davis was court-martialed once at West Point. Just once, like, he must have really impressed them with his behavior, right? I mean, who wouldn't want to court-martial a future president of the Confederacy? Just once, man, just once.
After seceding, he would have been quite happy without a war, if Lincoln had granted official recognition to the Confederacy. But when Lincoln declared that he would defend Fort Sumter (which the Confederacy considered its own), and then called for new volunteer troops, Davis felt he had to mobilise.
He was the President of the Confederate States of America during the Civil War. He did not want to secede (separate) from the Union, at first, but supported it after his state seceded. He then became the president of the Confederate States of America and led them into battles during the civil war, but did not succeed. Instead, he lost the war and was thrown into jail.
Jefferson Davis was elected by the Confederate Congress to the office of president by an election held in November 6, 1861. According to the Confederate Constitution the Confederate president would serve a one time six year term. Prior to that time Davis had been appointed by the Confederate Congress as the provisional president.
The US Civil war was fought from 1861-1865 between 20 free states of North/ five border states and 11 pro slavery states of South. From the Union side President Abraham Lincoln was the leader and from Confederate states Jefferson Davis was the supreme leader. The heads of state during the civil war were President Abraham Lincoln for the United States or the Union. For the Confederate States Of America, it was President Jefferson Davis.

Jefferson Davis did not actively seek a civil war; rather, he aimed to preserve the Confederacy's independence and way of life, which he believed was threatened by the Union. When Southern states seceded, he accepted the role of president of the Confederacy, but his primary goal was to defend their rights and sovereignty. The conflict escalated as tensions mounted over issues like slavery and states' rights, ultimately leading to war. Davis hoped for a peaceful resolution but was prepared to fight to protect the Confederacy.

He didn't want to be. He was hoping to be General-in-Chief. But he was 'kicked upstairs', because he looked like the good face of slave-owning. (He treated his slaves so well, they didn't want their freedom.) The Confederate government thought this would encourage free nations abroad to grant recognition to the Confederacy and send military aid.

Jefferson Davis believed that European countries would be on the side of the south because of their dependence on cotton.

In 1860 Abraham Lincoln was elected as the 16th president of the United States. Lincoln did not agree with slavery and wanted to put a stop to it. The south wanted slavery and did not want it to stop, that means they did not want Abraham to be elected. After the election was official, 11 states seced from the union. They created the Confederacy of America, and elected Jefferson Davis as their president. Not long after they seceded the one and only Civil War started.
jefferson was president but not sure about the rest...
He wouldn't be giving terms to the South. He was the Southern President. Do you mean offer terms to the North (the Union)? At the very end, the Confederacy offered to abolish slavery, if the Union would grant it recognition as an independent nation. Congress wasn't interested.
