To many in the upper class Russian Imperial Society of the early 1900s, Grigori Rasputin was indeed a saint, a prophet, a healer, a starets and a holy man of true faith. This included Tsarina Alexandra Romanov who was persuaded after he supposedly healed her only son Alexei from one of his bleeding fits - a result of the prince's inhertied haemophilia.

Although he was indeed a peasent monk who hailed from a small, remote village in Siberia, it is likely he conned and muddled his way into the inner circles of Russia's weathly elite for his own personal gain and benefit and he possessed no power at all.

Wel i heard it took them ages to kill him like they shot him and tried tp drown him but eventualy he was poisined i think but im not sure we havent done that part of history in school yet. Hope it helps but i wouldn't quote that as fact jst a suggestion

No, Rasputin was not a hypnotist. He was an uneducated peasant, very religious, and had a great knowledge of Siberian, Chinese and Tibetan herbal healing. He was also, by many accounts, an empathic healer. He could lay his hands on an ill person and draw the illness or pain from them, into himself (an exhausting process). He did have a powerful gaze that many found it difficult to avoid, but he was not educated in the process of hypnosis.

What many don't know is that he fought for equal rights for minorities and was against war or bloodshed of any kind. He was especially concerned about the lack of rights for Jews who were severely oppressed under tsarism. Russia was a highly antisemitic society and so the aristocracy hated him for helping Jews, especially when they found that he wouldn't help the nobles in their efforts to gain power or positions. So they started a smear campaign (Russian society was famous for its gossip), and the outrageous stories became history. But even in the memoirs of the nobles who hated him, they talk about how Rasputin helped the Jews (although they sometimes use less kind words) and how anti-war he was.
