Rosa Parks, whose maiden name was Rosa Louise McCauley, was an African-American activist who fought for the civil rights of black people. She was born in 1913, in Alabama, her mother was a teacher and her father a carpenter. She studied at the Industrial School for Girls in Montgomery, then stated studies at the Alabama State Teachers College for Negroes, but was unable to continue her education because she had to take care of her sick mother and grandmother.
