Did William die in the Battle of Hastings?

NO. William (the Conqueror) did not die at the Battle of Hastings, but became the first of the Norman Kings of England. He was crowned King at Westminster Abbey on Christmas Day, 1066.

However, his opponent, King Harold did die at Hastings.

Firstly, Harold Godwineson had just battled up in York against the Vikings, a tough opponent. Harold had then lost quite a few men battling against the Vikings and then burning their ships. After this Harold had to walk all the way South to London to fight the French. Walking from York to London isn't easy, this meant that Harold's army was tired and they couldn't rest at the battle since they had to fight. They wouldn't rest in mid-battle, unless they want to die of course ……

William's army contained full time professional soldiers while Harold's did not. William's side had the cavalry, the spearmen and the archers. Harold's side consisted of half time and full time and both sides matched in the amount of men each had. This gave William the experience advantage and the fact that they were professionals meant they could fight better. It's like having one football side with kids and teens while the other team just teens (presuming the teens were better,). Harold's side couldn't fight as well as William's.

There was also the point that William had tactics which would allow him to win. Harold was on the top of a cliff just shooting down the enemy. William sent his Archers who where long ranged so could attack from further and weaken the defensive wall. This took too long, so the French pretended to retreat. This caused the English to run after them down the hill. Once they did this then William sent his cavalry which totally stampeded the English and weakened their defense at the hill. This worked twice and weakened the defense wall enough to break through and win the battle.

Harold also had a very bad command and organization of his army. We do not really know that on the fake retreat the men just went disobeying Harold or a bad move by him. The organization was not very good after this not allowing Harold to move or make a tactic. This also caused a severe problem which killed multiple people from the army and gave William an advantage with this. The archers and the footmen killed many as the cavalry finished them off.

All of Harold's problems lead to another, for example the army disobeying, and then being back in a shamble and then being murdered. Harold gained a big disadvantage with all of these leading to his death and the end of his dream of being the king. Of course someone had to get upset, can't they just be friendly sportsmen?
