The British passed the Tea Act to help pay off the debts of the French and Indian war. After the French and Indian War was finished the British felt like it was the colonists part to pay up for the costs that they had racked up during the war. Even thought they had fought together. However, this had a reverse effect and caused tensions to rise in the colonies.
