In the Winter of 1170, when King Henry the Second of England invaded Ireland.
There was some electricity in Ireland in the 19th century. More organised production of electricity started in the early 20th century. The Electricty Supply Board, or ESB, was set up in the 1920s to really develop Ireland's electricity network. See the link below for more history or Ireland's electricity and the ESB.
Most Protestants want to remain WITH Britain and not become part of a united Ireland. Irish nationalists want to unite the country - hence the troubles. The division of Ireland into the overwhelmingly Roman Catholic republic and the north, which remained part of the renamed the 'United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland', dates from 1921. In that year Ireland was divided, following a vicious civil war. The most recent 'troubles' have been ongoing since 1969 (with breaks). Joncey
Ireland has had various wars during its history, like the war of independence (21 January 1919 - 11 July 1921) and the Irish civil war ( 28 June 1922 - 24 May 1923) amongst others. You may also be referring to the troubles in Northern Ireland which started in the late 1960s running through to the 1990s. That was not your standard war, as often perceived by those who are not fully familiar with it. It was mainly isolated terrorists events, like individual shootings or bombings, not hand to hand combat in open warfare. There could be days, weeks and even months between incidents. It was primarily confined to Northern Ireland, and not throughout Ireland, which is another common misconception. There were relatively few incidents outside of Northern Ireland, with some being in other parts of Ireland and some in Britain.
Bad feelings between the English and the Irish go back to the Dark Ages, Irish raiders terrorised the British West coast and took many people as slaves (that's how St Patrick came to be in Ireland). The Irish hate for the English really started when the Normans from England occupied Ireland in the 12th century under Richard de Clare (Strongbow). The Irish slowly regained their land over a few hundred years but in the 16th century, the Tudors caused a lot of trouble in Ireland by starting plantations. The land and rights were taken from the Irish and there was a lot of conflict in the 16th and 17th centuries also because of religious differences, Ireland being Catholic and England being Protestant. There was much less resistance after the Battle of the Boyne which was a decisive English victory over the Irish and Scot Jacobites. Northern Ireland became heavily populated with English people which eventually led to the recent 'Troubles' in which Irish Republicans have callled for a completely unified Ireland and no more English presence. The potato famine and the lack of English support during those times were also a cause for hate in the Irish, as English landlords would carelessly evict those Irish who were too impoverished to pay their tax/rent. Hope all that answers the question.
6 out of 32 counties Ireland is about 19% of northern Ireland I don't want to be picky and I definitely don't want to start an international incident, so to be politically correct I will say that geographically, Northern Ireland accounts for about 19-20% of the land mass of the island of Ireland.
Ireland is a country (so, there are no other countries in Ireland). However, another name for Ireland is Eire. There are 32 counties in Ireland (including the six in Northern Ireland), but none of them start with the letter E.
Since Northern Ireland is not part of the United States, it does not have ZIP Codes. Postal codes in Northern Ireland all begin with the letters BT, followed by a 1- or 2-digit number, a space, and then a digit and two letters. For instance, BT99 9ZZ.

Northern Ireland only came into existence in 1922. After that, there were two teams in Ireland, one representing Northern Ireland and one representing the Republic of Ireland, but both could pick players from all of Ireland and both used the name Ireland. It was not until 1950 that the two teams were distinguished as Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland.Northern Ireland only came into existence in 1922.
