The claim that the costs of World War II were worth the outcome is, from the vast majority of perspectives available, quite a reasonable one. Despite the loss of life, the damage to property and land and industry, and the humiliations and suffering and lasting emotional (and other) scars that the war caused, the alternative would have resulted in much greater loss. One particular consideration here is the genocide directed at the Jews by the Nazis: if the Allies had not gone to war against Germany, its genocidal intentions would surely have been acted upon in full.
